Surfagon 10 mcg (10 ml)

Solution for injection.
Surfagon in 1 ml as an active ingredient contains (surfagon) alarelin acetate (in terms of alarelin) 5 or 10 mcg, excipients: sodium chloride, nipagin, and water for injection.

In appearance, the drug is a colorless or slightly yellowish transparent liquid.
The shelf life of the drug, subject to storage conditions in the manufacturer’s unopened packaging, is 2 years from the date of manufacture. After opening the vial, the unused drug cannot be stored. It is forbidden to use the drug after the expiration date.

Surfagon is produced packaged in 10 and 100 ml in glass bottles of the appropriate capacity, sealed with rubber stoppers, reinforced with aluminum caps. Vials of 10 ml are packed in cardboard boxes of 20 pcs. Each consumer package is supplied with instructions for use.

Store the medicinal product in the manufacturer’s closed packaging in a place protected from direct sunlight, separately from food and feed, at a temperature of 5 °C to 25 °C.

Surfagon should be kept out of the reach of children.

The unused drug is disposed of in accordance with the requirements of the law.

Pharmacological properties

Surfagon ((D-alanil ⁶ , des-glycylamide ¹⁰ , L-prolylethylamide ⁹ )-luliberin acetate) belongs to the group: hormonal agents, their analogues and antagonists (ATC vet code: QH01CA90).

Surfagon is a synthetic analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) – luliberin. Competitively binds to the receptors of the cells of the anterior pituitary gland, causing, like other GnRH analogues, a short-term increase in the level of sex hormones in the blood. The increased content of gonadotropins in the blood persists for 3 to 4 hours after administration, then the content drops rapidly. The half-life of surfagon is the same as that of natural luliberin. During this time, the peptide breaks down into amino acids and is excreted from the body.

Application procedure

Surfagon is used for:
– early induction of the sexual cycle;
– treatment of hypofunction and follicular ovarian cysts;
– prevention of early embryonic mortality;
– increasing the fertility of female farm animals.

Contraindication for use is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug.

When working with Surfagon, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with drugs. People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with the drug. Do not drink, smoke or eat while working with the drug. At the end of work, hands should be washed with warm water and soap. Vials from under the medicinal product must not be used for domestic purposes, they must be disposed of with household waste.
In case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes of the eye, they must be washed with plenty of water. In case of allergic reactions or in case of accidental ingestion of the drug into the human body, you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have instructions for using the drug or a label with you).

The drug can be used in cows for 9 days after artificial insemination, in the subsequent period of pregnancy, the use of the drug is prohibited. The drug is not allowed to be used in pregnant sows, ewes, as well as in young animals.

For early induction of the sexual cycle in cows, Surfagon is administered once at a dose of 50 mcg on days 8-12 after calving. Despite the arrival of animals in the hunt, they are inseminated no earlier than 60 days after calving.
For the treatment of a mild form of ovarian hypofunction in cows, Surfagon is administered twice: the first time – on the 8-12th day of the sexual cycle at a dose of 50 mcg, again – after 10 days at the same dose.
With a more pronounced form of ovarian hypofunction, on days 1, 3 and 5, 10 ml of a 1% oil solution of progesterone is administered intramuscularly, and on the 7th day – Magestrofan ^® at a dose of 2 ml and Surfagon at a dose of 50 mcg. Animals are inseminated as they come into the hunt.
For the treatment of follicular cysts, Surfagon is administered three times with an interval of 24 hours to cows at a dose of 20-25 mcg, to heifers 15-20 mcg. Cows can be administered once intravenously at a dose of 50 mcg. On the 11th-13th day after the first administration of the drug, Magestrofan ^® is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 2 ml. Animals are inseminated as they come into the hunt.
In case of two or more infertile inseminations of cows on the 11th day after the last coming into heat, Magestrophan ^® is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 2 ml, and after about 70 hours Surfagon is administered at a dose of 50 mcg and the animals are inseminated as they come into heat. Cows that did not come into heat are re-treated with Surfagon at a dose of 50 mcg. Animals that come to hunt are inseminated.
To prevent early embryonic mortality in cows, Surfagon is administered on days 3, 5 and 9 after insemination at a dose of 20-25 mcg.
To increase fertility and synchronize ovulation, 600-800 IU of Follimag ^® is administered to sows 24-48 hours after weaning . After detection of heat, before insemination, Surfagon is administered at a dose of 10 mcg. Insemination of sows is carried out according to the instructions.
To stimulate the development of the reproductive organs of replacement pigs, 60 and 30 days before planned insemination, use Surfagon 10 mcg or Pigulin * 1 dose per animal.
To increase the fertility of ewes, the drug is administered once at a dose of 15-20 mcg. Artificial insemination is carried out after 12-14 hours. After 12 hours, the animals are re-inseminated.

When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications, as a rule, are not observed. In the event of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is stopped and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal.

There were no cases of overdose with Surfagon.

Surfagon must not be mixed in the same syringe with other drugs.

Features of the action of the drug during its first use and when it is canceled were not identified.

In case of an accidental increase in the interval between two injections of the drug, it should be administered as soon as possible in the same dose and according to the same scheme.

Animal products after the use of Surfagon for food purposes can be used without restrictions.
